JAMLAC Client Story of Hope

with 4 Comments

Andrea Smith is a 58 -year-old woman who was in an abusive marriage for 23 years.  She was physically, emotionally and mentally abused by her husband.  She came to our office needing legal assistance as her abusive husband had filed for a divorce.  Husband had an attorney and when they had the first court date, husband and his attorney appeared in court and our client felt alone, intimidated, lost and scared.  At that point, she was referred to our office and met with our victim advocate and one of our attorneys, Steve Thompson.

When Mr. Thompson gave Andrea the initial consultation, he immediately knew that we needed to take this case and help her.  Had we not taken her case, she would have been terrified to go through the process alone and would have not had a good outcome because the husband had an attorney and she did not know how the court system worked.  Husband basically was refusing to give our client half of the marital home, property, personal items, etc.

Our client was so emotionally, physically and mentally exhausted that she wanted to just give up.  Our office fought hard to get her justice, what was fair and safety going forward.  She was able to walk away with half of the marital assets.  Most importantly she is able to move on and be happy, be safe, be at peace and start over without being abused and bullied the rest of her life.
