JAMLAC was recently approved to receive funds from the Colorado COVID Relief Fund to help DV victims

These have been very difficult times for all of us, especially the vulnerable people we serve. We are extremely happy to announce that JAMLAC received $25,000.00 from the Colorado COVID Relief Fund for our legal aid programs in order to create a meaningful impact and provide legal services for domestic violence victims.

“These funds will help us implement new and effective ways to help domestic violence victims as they recover from the crisis.” – Nikki Koster, Development Director

We are seeing firsthand the urgent need for protection orders; divorces from abusers; child support for children’s needs (food, clothing, medical services); and legal access to benefits previously tied to abusers. Domestic violence has increased during the crisis, more low-income families are experiencing injustice, and immigrants are even more vulnerable. These funds will help us tackle these issues head-on, and together, we can continue to fight for a healthier community!

Unfortunately, JAMLAC also received news this week that three other government grant will be decreasing by 60%, 45% and 20%. We anticipate other grants to follow suit and are planing for a ~$127,000 loss in grant funding during our next fiscal year starting July 1. We are turning to our loyal donors and new funding sources (like the CO COVID Relief Fund) to help us meet the immediate need and help us strategically grow during the next 1-2 years. Together we can amplify JAMLAC’s impact of seeking justice for those who struggle with poverty and oppression, and make a difference in our community

Led by an executive committee in coordination with the Governor’s Office, the Colorado COVID Relief Fund was developed to raise and coordinate the allocation of funds based on COVID-19 prevention, impact, and recovery needs of community-based organizations in Colorado. The Fund is organized to ensure that the most acute community needs across the state are being addressed and that community voice is reflected in all funding decisions made over time.
