Bringing strength, hope, and peace to people in need.

At this point, I don’t even know where to go. She can’t sleep, she has nightmares and refuses to go to school. She doesn’t trust anyone anymore…” Sharing how your child behaves after she was sexually abused is a situation that no mother should ever encounter. Sadly, every 45 seconds, someone is sexually assaulted in the US (American Medical Association). Of these victims, 61% are under age, mostly between the ages of 11 and 17 (American Medical Association).

Nicole, an immigrant mother of two, not only has to retell the sexual abuse her 14-year-old daughter experienced back in 2015 at hand of her ex-husband, but she must also fight for custody of her two-year-old son. When JAMLAC’s Legal Advocate met Nicole to discuss the custody process, tears fell from her face as she said, “Yes, I’m emotionally destroyed, my family is in ruins, and I can’t sleep at night, but I still believe in the mercy and promise of God, and I will do everything that is in my hands to protect the rest of my children.”

Crime victims suffer a tremendous amount of physical and psychological trauma. They also suffer through the anxiety of encountering a plethora of aftermath legal issues which result from the crime.

We immediately realized that the future peace of Nicole’s family was in JAMLAC’s hands. In your hands.

Thanks to our donor’s support, JAMLAC will not only take her family law case, but also her immigration case – something she never could have imagined. Because of this, she and her kids will be protected. “She just couldn’t believe that she had options and that we were going to help her!” JAMLAC’s Legal Advocate recalled.

For a family like Nicole’s, the sole act of knowing that two experienced attorneys are working on her case and taking care of them allows her with the peace of mind to focus on her family’s emotional recovery.

When Nicole left JAMLAC’s office, she shared, “All I want is for my daughter to see me as the mother that I should have been. All I want is for her to trust me again”.
