Celebrating Carmen’s Full Accreditation: More Representation, More Hope

by | Jun 30, 2025 | Uncategorized

At a time when access to immigration legal representation in the U.S. is at crisis levels, we’re proud to share a piece of hope: Carmen Stevens, one of JAMLAC’s dedicated immigration legal team members, has officially received her full DOJ accreditation!

This means Carmen can now represent clients in immigration court proceedings, expanding our ability to provide high-quality, culturally sensitive legal help to low-income immigrants in Colorado.

🌎 Why This Matters: The National Reality in 2025

  • Over 1.6 million people are currently in active immigration court proceedings across the U.S.
  • More than 60% of immigrants facing deportation in court have no legal representation at all.
  • For vulnerable immigrants—including survivors of violence, older adults, and families with mixed-status members—navigating the legal system alone is overwhelming, confusing, and often devastating.
  • Studies show that immigrants with legal representation are more than 5 times more likely to achieve a positive outcome in their cases.

💛 What Carmen’s Accreditation Means for Our Community

At JAMLAC, we focus on helping immigrants facing family instability, domestic violence, elder abuse, and other civil legal matters—and now, Carmen’s accreditation allows us to go a step further by providing representation in immigration court when it’s connected to these critical legal issues.

Carmen’s achievement reflects not just her years of dedication and learning—but also JAMLAC’s belief in investing in people who serve our community with heart and excellence.

In a time when too many immigrants face court alone, we’re proud that our clients will now have one more powerful advocate by their side.

To Carmen: Congratulations on this well-deserved milestone.

To our community and supporters: This is what your partnership makes possible—real people, doing real work, making a real difference in the fight for justice.
