Boots on the Ground: What We’re Seeing

by | Dec 16, 2025 | Uncategorized

At JAMLAC, our team works directly with individuals and families navigating a legal system that is changing quickly—often with little notice. What we see on the ground doesn’t always align with public perception, and we believe it’s important to share these realities plainly.

Recently, we’ve seen the direct impact of federal policy changes on our clients. For example, the Department of Homeland Security has announced the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti, set to take effect on February 3, 2026. For many individuals who have lived and worked in the U.S. lawfully for years, this means an abrupt loss of protection and increased uncertainty about their future.

At the same time, asylum adjudications have been paused nationwide, and USCIS has initiated reviews of refugee admissions from prior years. These changes have created significant delays and uncertainty for people who rely on timely decisions for work authorization, family stability, and protection from harm. We are seeing clients who were previously moving forward in their cases now placed in prolonged limbo.

Outside our offices, daily life often appears unchanged—families go to work, take children to school, and carry on as usual. But inside courtrooms and legal consultations, the uncertainty is real and ongoing. These are the moments where legal advocacy matters most, and where access to accurate information and representation can make a critical difference.

This section will continue to share what we are seeing in real time—so our community can better understand the realities facing the people we serve.
