A Moment of Hope in the Lobby

by | Nov 24, 2024 | Immigration

It was an ordinary afternoon at JAMLAC. Marlene, our Communications Director, stood chatting with the receptionist in the lobby while Carmen Stevens, one of our DOJ Accredited Representatives, sorted through the incoming mail. Among the usual envelopes, one stood out—a letter from USCIS. With a mix of nerves and anticipation, Carmen carefully opened it.

To her surprise and joy, it was a work permit—the one she and her client Miranda had been waiting on for over two years since submitting a U-Visa application. Miranda, who has lived in the United States since she was a child, had been anxiously hoping for this moment. Her dream? To join the police force and serve the very community that raised her.

The lobby filled with emotion—laughter, a few tears, and a deep sense of purpose. It was a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact JAMLAC makes every day. For those who wait with hope, justice does come. And for those who want to give back, like Miranda, we are honored to walk beside them.

Thank you, Carmen, for being part of this incredible journey. Moments like this are why we do what we do.
