Inside Our Work: More Than Legal Services — Walking Alongside Our Clients

Jun 4, 2026 | Uncategorized

At JAMLAC, our work goes far beyond legal services. We believe in walking alongside people through some of the most difficult moments of their lives — connecting them not only with legal support, but also with compassion, dignity, and community resources.

Recently, after more than 30 years, one of JAMLAC’s immigration clients finally received her passport from El Salvador. For many people, obtaining a passport may seem simple. But for vulnerable older adults facing poverty, health challenges, language barriers, transportation issues, and years of instability, this process can become one of the most overwhelming and difficult experiences of their lives.

This moment was only possible through patience, advocacy, and collaboration with the Salvadoran Consulate — but also because of the holistic approach JAMLAC takes in serving our clients.

Aide Salazar-Zetina, JAMLAC’s Resources & Partnership Liaison, played a vital role throughout the process. Beyond connecting the client to services, Aide consistently showed up with compassion and care — helping coordinate resources, transportation, food, clothing, and emotional support. She even personally picked the client up when needed, ensuring she did not have to navigate these challenges alone.

Seeing the client finally receive her passport was deeply emotional for everyone involved. More importantly, this document now allows her to move forward with a long-awaited eye surgery that she hopes will help restore some independence and improve her quality of life.

Stories like this remind us that true advocacy is not just about legal paperwork. Sometimes, it is about listening, showing empathy, helping someone get to an appointment, finding food resources, or simply reminding a person that they matter.

There is still much more work to be done, but one step at a time, hope continues to grow.
