📢 Keeping American Families Together
We are thrilled to share that President Biden is taking significant steps to keep U.S. citizens and their noncitizen family members together. The Department of Homeland Security will implement a new process to help certain noncitizen spouses and children apply for lawful permanent residence without leaving the country.
This action will:
🔹 Promote family unity
🔹Strengthen our economy
🔹Provide stability and security for families
Eligibility Criteria:
🔸 Noncitizens must – as of June 17, 2024 – have resided in the United States for 10 or more years and be legally married to a U.S.
🔸 Must meet all applicable legal requirements
On average, those who are eligible for this process have resided in the U.S. for 23 years
Key Benefits:
✔️ Approved individuals will have a three-year period to apply for permanent residency
✔️ Eligible for work authorization for up to three years
✔️ They will be allowed to remain with their families in the United States
✔️ Protects approximately 500,000 spouses of U.S. citizens and 50,000 noncitizen children under 21
This policy change marks a significant step forward in ensuring that families can remain together without fear of separation. At JAMLAC, we are committed to supporting these efforts and providing vital legal services to those who struggle with poverty and oppression and are affected by this policy.
In addition to this, the Administration is also easing the visa process for U.S. college graduates, including Dreamers. Individuals with degrees from accredited U.S. institutions who have high-skilled job offers in their field will now be able to receive work visas more quickly. This includes DACA recipients and other Dreamers, recognizing their valuable contributions to our country.
Join us in celebrating these important developments that promote family unity and support our diverse community. Together, we can make a difference! 💪
