In the heart of our community, at the Justice and Mercy Legal Aid Center (JAMLAC), we witness daily the transformative power of dedication and service. Today, we celebrate the incredible journey of one of our volunteers, Evelyn, whose story embodies the essence of our mission.
Evelyn, the daughter of Mexican immigrants, has been a beacon of hope and resilience. Raised in Aurora, her parents’ teachings of hard work and goal-setting have deeply influenced her path. After high school, Evelyn’s journey led her to discover a passion for law, particularly immigration law, while pursuing an Associate of Applied Science Paralegal degree. Her interest was not just academic; it was personal and heartfelt, mirroring her own family’s journey towards residency.Evelyn’s quest for an internship brought her to our doors at JAMLAC, where destiny seemed to align with her aspirations. As she delved into her internship, Evelyn discovered the broad spectrum of our work – not just in immigration law, but in family law and other areas critical to the community we serve. Her experience at JAMLAC has been nothing short of transformative.
Working alongside our dedicated team, Evelyn has glimpsed the tangible impact of legal aid. Each file, each case, tells a story of perseverance and hope – stories that have reignited her motivation to give back to the community.
As Evelyn explores her future in law, whether as a paralegal, accredited representative, or attorney, her journey is a testament to the power of opportunity and mentorship that JAMLAC offers. Her experience highlights the invaluable role of volunteers like her in our mission.
We are immensely grateful to Evelyn and all our volunteers who bring their passion, energy, and unique perspectives to JAMLAC. They are not just volunteers; they are change-makers, contributing significantly to our community’s growth and resilience.Evelyn’s story is a reminder of why we do what we do at JAMLAC – empowering individuals to reach their full potential while serving those in need. Let’s continue to support and celebrate the powerful journey of our volunteers, for they are the heartbeat of our mission.
