JOB OPENING-FAMILY LAW PARALEGAL


The Justice and Mercy Legal Aid Center (JAMLAC) is a faith-based non-profit charitable organization
(501c3) that provides full civil legal representation for family law, immigration law, and limited civil
matters. Our mission is to seek justice for people who are struggling with poverty and oppression in a way
that affirms their dignity and strengthens their capacity to positively direct their own lives.
JAMLAC is currently seeking interested applicants for a full-time Family Law Paralegal. The job is open
immediately. JAMLAC is prepared to hire an exceptionally qualified candidate as soon as possible.


JOB DESCRIPTION – Family Law Paralegal
Full-time Salaried Position
Salary: $43,000-$55,000 depending on education and experience

    Preferred skills:
  • Fluent in both the English and Spanish languages

  • Assist with front desk coverage including answering phones/office reception, as needed
  • Participate in development and fundraising events and activities as requested by JAMLAC
  • Attend and assist with community events, as needed
  • Support and assist Executive Director and Development Department in activities as assigned
  • Participate with preparation and presentation information, analysis and stories about JAMLAC to
    various audiences, including fundraising events
  • Meet with, coordinate, and maintain relationships with community agencies as needed,
    specifically local consulates, other service organizations and church organizations
    Paralegal Responsibilities:
  • Serve as primary assistant to JAMLAC attorneys and point of contact between clients and
    attorneys
  • Conduct client intake interviews, if needed, and actively participate in case review meetings
  • Prepare court pleadings, exhibits, and correspondence
  • Collect and organize supporting documents from clients as needed
  • Coordinate client meetings as requested by attorneys, including review and execution of
    documents/applications
  • Open paper and electronic files for represented clients and maintains client files
  • Track and maintain closed client files per JAMLAC procedures
  • Obtain State of Colorado Notary Public accreditation and provide notary services as needed by
    clients
  • Accompany represented victims to court hearings as appropriate
  • Assist clients in obtaining required court and supporting documents
  • Schedule appointments, court dates and interview dates on JAMLAC calendar
  • Maintain case calendar for attorneys
  • Calendar, maintain and track case deadlines
  • Provide translation and interpretation (Spanish/English) services to clients, as needed
  • Participate in and assists in training to staff and volunteers for representation of crime victims and
    domestic violence
  • Suggest and execute improvements to department procedures and policies as needed
  • Distribute and collect client surveys of services rendered
  • Assist clients with safety planning, if necessary
  • Provide emotional support to crime victims as appropriate
  • Collect and enter client data as needed for grant reporting purposes
  • Assist with grant reporting and grant proposals, as requested
