Unity Through Inclusion: Honoring Domestic Violence Awareness Month and National Disability Employment Awareness Month

by | Oct 17, 2024 | Uncategorized

This October, JAMLAC proudly participates in both Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) and National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). These observances emphasize the importance of supporting survivors of domestic violence and promoting inclusion for individuals with disabilities in the workforce. At JAMLAC, we are committed to offering life-changing legal services that empower survivors to escape abusive environments and reclaim their lives. One client shared their deeply personal story of how JAMLAC’s support transformed their journey:

“Elizabeth listened to people’s problems, I feel more comfortable because I’m free. I was pretty bad and she was a blessing to me with compassion and love. She answered my questions and she was a real good lady, and I feel good. I explained what happened and she listened. With somebody else, other lawyers, they didn’t listen; when they called, they wouldn’t explain things and they wouldn’t listen. I’ve been happy with her [Elizabeth] and I love her. She saved me. I was crying so much. I feel sad, but I said, ‘Thank you, Lord, for sending me someone to support me.’ I feel good. I feel safe. I can go outside, and I’m sleeping better. She [Elizabeth] is the most wonderful person because she listens to the person who needs help, and that’s the main thing. We feel like we were talking to family because she was listening so closely. Other lawyers took advantage of me, and they didn’t care about us. When I talk to Elizabeth, I feel like I’m talking to a friend, and to me, that’s really important.”

This heartfelt story reflects the essence of DVAM—raising awareness and providing hope for those who need it most. JAMLAC’s team offers more than legal aid; they provide compassion, safety, and dignity to every person they serve.

In parallel, NDEAM reminds us of the power of inclusion. This year’s theme, “Unity Through Inclusion,” highlights the need for workplaces that value diversity and accessibility, ensuring individuals with disabilities have equal opportunities to contribute. As we honor both DVAM and NDEAM, JAMLAC is committed to creating a community where everyone, regardless of their challenges, has access to justice and support. Together, we can build a society where survivors find safety, individuals with disabilities find opportunity, and everyone finds dignity.
