Position:  Bilingual Paralegal

Justice And Mercy Legal Aid Center (JAMLAC), a faith based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is seeking a bilingual paralegal to join our team in 2022. This position is based in Denver, Colorado.

JAMLAC’s mission is to seek justice for people who are struggling with poverty, oppression, and abuse in a way that affirms their dignity and strengthens their capacity to positively direct their own lives. We seek candidates who can wholeheartedly join and support this mission.

This may be a full-time or part-time, salaried position. Salary depends on experience. The salary range is $40,000-$46,000 for full time. The full-time position includes a generous benefits package, including medical insurance or a stipend and eligibility to participate in a simple IRA retirement plan. We provide professional development opportunities and paid vacation time and sick leave.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a diverse caseload which includes victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, harassment and stalking, as well as other crimes, child victims, or and children of victims 
  • Serve as primary assistant to attorneys and point of contact between clients and attorney
  • Maintain the attorneys’ calendar, schedule client appointments, court dates and deadlines
  • Open and Maintain client files, track client progress, close out files, collect and organize documents, draft pleadings and personal statements, fill out applications
  • Accompany represented victims to court hearings as appropriate.
  • Provide translation and interpretation (Spanish/English) services to clients, as needed.
  • Participate in and assists with training to staff and volunteers

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Must be fluent in both the English and Spanish language
  • Must be DOJ Accredited or be willing to work towards DOJ Accreditation 
  • Must have 1-3 years’ experience as a Paralegal
  • Is an Accredited Colorado Notary Public
  • Communicates effectively in writing and speaking, paying close attention to details.
  • Has the flexibility, patience, and humor to thrive in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment.
  • Has a strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration in a primarily legal services setting.
  • Committed to attaining a basic knowledge of family law and immigration law.

Position:  Legal Advocate & Intake Coordinator

Justice And Mercy Legal Aid Center (JAMLAC), a faith based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is seeking a bilingual legal advocate and intake coordinator to join our team. This position is based in Denver, Colorado.  

JAMLAC’s mission is to seek justice for people who are struggling with poverty, oppression, and abuse in a way that affirms their dignity and strengthens their capacity to positively direct their own lives. We seek candidates who can wholeheartedly join in and support this mission.  

This is a full-time, salaried position. Salary depends upon experience. The salary range is $36,000-$40,000 for full time. The full-time position includes a generous benefits package with medical insurance or a stipend, and eligibility to participate in a simple IRA retirement plan. We provide professional development opportunities, paid vacation time and sick leave.  

Position Responsibilities:  

  • Conduct intakes with potential clients which includes survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, harassment, and stalking, as well as other crimes, child survivors, and/or children of survivors   
  • Serve as primary referral point to community and partner agencies  
  • Discuss legal rights of survivors and assist with address confidentiality, victim compensation, and court accompaniment as needed 
  • Provide translation and interpretation (Spanish/English) services to clients, as needed.  
  • Participate in and assist with training to staff, volunteers, community partners and community members 

The Ideal Candidate: 

  • Must be fluent in both the English and Spanish language  
  • Must have 2-3 years’ experience as an advocate, intake specialist, or similar position 
  • Is or is willing to be an Accredited Colorado Notary Public 
  • Communicates effectively in writing and speaking, paying close attention to detail 
  • Has the flexibility, patience, and humor to thrive in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment  
  • Has a strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration in a primarily legal services setting 
  • Committed to attaining a basic knowledge of family law and immigration law
